Ok. I just made my first bath bomb and have no idea what I might have possibly done wrong. I followed the instructions to a t. I got the easy directions from our Forum Mama's (Ann Marie)lovely website!! The problem is, it's very soft. It did form well, but when I took the mold apart, a couple of pieces kind of fell off. Not much, just a little. If I am not careful with it, it will absolutely definitely fall apart!! Do bath bombs have to "cure"? If so, about how long? Also, I can smell the witch hazel through the scent, I used "Tutti Fruity" by the way, :)!!! I know I put enough scent because I can smell it in the air. I sprayed the witch hazel until it started to "stick together" and hurried up and put the mixture into the mold. The only thing I didn't do was add color because I only have liquid colors. Any help or tricks or suggestions is surely appreciated!!!
Sonya

Is it possible that you added too much witch hazel? The mixture should be like barely wet sand.

The directions stated to spray the witch hazel until it starts to stick, so maybe I might have. Do you have any idea how many sprays to each bomb by any chance? I only made enought to make one just to see if I did it right!! Thanks again Soapbuddy!!!

I make a bunch at a time, but if I had to take an educated guess, probably 2 short spritzes for one.

I would agree with Soap Buddy - I make 3 bath bombs at one time and I give roughly 6 bursts of Witch Hazel at different intervals so I don't over do it. It always feels like picking up cold damp sand to me. Make sure you pack it hard into the moulds as well - sometimes I haven't crammed the mixture in as hard as I could and the bomb has cracked all down the middle and broken up a little.

questions. what colorants am I able to use in bath bombs, and can I use jojoba oil? they come out ok but they seem so hard to me. user they supposed to be like that? is there anything I can add so it will moisture the skin? I have a sale at my complex this weekend and I don't have enough time to order colorants, is there something that I can use from the store or something?

I use all different oils and butters in my bath bombs. Such as coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter etc.

Colours I use are water based liquid colours but you can also use certain powdered colours but I haven't been that adventurous yet

see, I used a liquid color and it beaded up in the mixture and didn't disperse. I don't want all my bath bombs to be white so I don't know what to do!!! when should I add the color? will the liquid actually color the mixture without being spotty? thanks for the advice. sonya

Sounds like you used FD&C colors. I have some mixed with glycerin and the first time I used it to color it beaded up in the mixture. Brambleberry sells LaBomb colors(think that's what it's called) and those are great as colorants.

The La Bomb colors I have also bead up, but a stout whisking incorporates the color nicely.

Since bath bombs have mostly oils, you need oil based cosmetic colorants. One way to go around this is to add a water based colorant to your witch hazel, then add that.

I tried everything, maybe making bath bombs is just not for me!!! I did everything that was suggested, but they just wouldn't stick together!!! I have no clue as to what I could be doing wrong. I added jojoba oil and fragrance and spritzed w/ witch hazel. Do you think the jojoba oil was the problem?

It's possible that jojoba is the culprit, since it's not really an oil per se, but a plant wax. Do you have any almond or fractionated coconut?
