Tonight I tried one of Bramble Berry Soap Queen lip balm recipes and found the flavor oil and honey I put in did not mix well.

I made sure the mixture was mixed well and then I poured. After it cooled down I tasted it but no flavor or not sweet at all. I scooped it out of it's container and flipped up side down to take a look and found flavor oil and honey just sank down to the bottom.

Anyone has any clue what went wrong?

Thanks.

I don't know which recipe you followed but honey is water soluble, not oil soluble. Water and oil will not mix for very long without an emulsifier.

It was the recipe Soap Queen published on Kiwi magazine. It said it's optional to add honey for sweet taste but since honey is not soluble in oil or wax make sure mix well. Which I did, or at least I tried.

Some people had had some luck with it, but I haven't and I know others that haven't either. Over time the honey can seep out as droplets as they try to make their way out of the oils/butters that you used. If you want to keep it natural, I would infuse pure stevia into one of your base oils.

since we're talking lip balm already can someone please tell me how do you get SPF in home made lip balm. What do you use ? And how much? I made my first lip balms today . I got the recipe to my likeing on the third try. First one was just like chapstick. Second one was like Berts Bees. The 3rd one was just right. I feel like Goldielocks with 3 bowls of porrage. Maybe I'll take a nap now.

I made this same recipe last night, with circus peanut fo. My question is: how do you measure 2/3 a teaspoon? I just sort of guessed, but I don't like to do that.

Oh, I'm sorry, that was for the avocado oil. The flavor oil was 1/2 mil. The recipe is: 2tsp coconut oil, 2 1/4tsp beeswax, 1 1/8 tsp sweet almond oil, 2/3 tsp avocado oil and 1/2 ml flavor oil. Just could not figure out the 2/3.

I was able to measure the fo, it's figuring out how to measure 2/3 a teaspoon of avocado oil that is throwing me. I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear.

Do you have measuring spoons? There should be a 2/3 tsp. one.

Yep, I do. It starts with 1/8, moves to 1/4 and then to 1/2 then to 3/4 and then to 1 tsp.
