I was wondering how exactly is the correct way to fragrance epsom salts if you are going to be keeping them dry (not a salt scrub). The customer wants them in a little cloth pouch and just to be able to scoop a little bit of scented salts in for a bath. Maybe use a spray bottle thing like for the rubbing alcohol in MP ?

I put mine in a bowl, add fragrance and mix well. Then I leave it on a wax paper wrapped cookie sheet overnight, so they get a chance to dry out.

so you just pour some in? I did about a full cup of dead sea salts last time (now I am switching to epsom salts though), and I just used about a tsp by volume....not sure if that was right or not...I figured it was going in the bathtub it needed to have a strong enough smell even when diluted. But it had a VERY strong almond-y smell (that was the scent I did for my aunt) in the bag. I made these cute little cloth bags on the sewin machine since I can't afford all the different fancy packaging yet. Is that an ok way to package these things or am I doing it all wrong?
Thanks alot!

I premeasure (by weight) the fragrance first, then slowly pour into the glass bowl which has the salts. Measuring by tsp. is not very accurate. If you use too much fragrance, it might irritate the skin. I'm not sure if the cloth bags will work as the moisture from the salts and the fragrance could seep into the bags and might discolor them.

what kind of bags do you use? Also if not by vol for something like this, do you just zero the scale out with a glass container and put it in that to see? That is how I measure when i do by weight. For scented salts how much do you usually add then?
Sorry I hope I am not buggin ya, but I really appreciate all your help!

You can use foil lined coffee bags. They keep the salts from contact of the outside of the bag and if there is any seepage, it will not go through to the outside. To weight the same amount each time, put your container on the scale then tare it. Fill it with the desired weight. Take it off the scale. When you put the next bag on, it should be at zero, as you tared it for the first bag. Or tare a cup, then pur desired amount into the cup. Pour into the bag/container. When you put the cup back on the scale, it should be back to zero. Repeat.

ah...i would not have thought about the coffee bags. Well I am only doing the salts for this one customer. People seem to be more interested in bath teas so I don't necessarily want to invest in coffee lined bags right now. But that is a good idea in case I come back to this. Maybe I can find a sample size bag to try.

You could also put it in a PET plastic jar with a lid. Those are fine with fragrance oils.

So for amounts, I guess experimentation is the best?

2 cups of salts and 2tsp of fragrance?

1 cup of salts and 1/2 tsp of fragrance, is there a recipe or guideline here that anyone has seen as i haven't.

TIA

I know it's not very scientific, but for 2 cups of salts I would add 1 tsp. of fragrance. Some FO's are stronger than others though.
