Hi all!

I made a solid lotion stick with beeswax, jojoba, coconut oil, and sweet almond oil. I added calendula and chamomile extracts & some almond fragrance oil.

My customer loves it except... it stings. Ow! I tried it too, and sure enough, it does. I'm assuming it's the extracts. Apparently it stops stinging after a few days. Any thoughts out there how I can make the stinging stop?

How much almond fragrance did you use?

The honest answer is... I don't know. I haven't made many of these. Never sold them. So I probably just added it by smell. I didn't sell this one, I just made a test batch and my customer wanted it, so I let her take it.

I would strongly suggest you get a scale. Some scents like almond can be very strong and are used at a lower %.

i agree with soapbuddy - the fragrance is my first suspect. almond is a VERY strong one, too.

Makes sense. Of course, I have a scale.... but since it was supposed to be for me, I didn't use it when I added the fragrance oil. Stupid, I know, but I just love the almond scent and wanted to smell the almond over the yellow beeswax. A total "D'OH!" moment for me.

Does the sweet almond oil not smell almondy already? I have a customer who's a big fan of almond scent too, and while I have some almond scent (actually I have alot) I was thinking if the oil smells like almond, I may not have to add much FO/any to the lotion bar recipe I am going to try.

I got sweet almond oil from Brambleberry and it doesn't smell like almond, actually doesn't have any smell at all, but I don't know if there is just almond oil and sweet almond oil.

Regular almond oil will not have an almond like scent.
