This might be a silly question...but I have been looking at lip balm flavors, and I was wondering if you have to add a sweetner? Will it be awful without it?

My customers prefer sweetened, but it's a matter of personal preference.

I always use a sweetener.... sometimes they can taste kinda funky without one added.

if you add a sweetener and flavor oil, do you need a preservative?

no preservative - but be sure you're using sweeteners and flavors that are food safe, and made for lip balms.

ok...two more questions I have come across....I know most basic recipes tend to be very basic ...small amounts. I don't want to just jump in making a big batch. but the recipe on teach soap's page for lip balm has a total of around 2 oz (i'm guessing by weight). So when you double boil it, or even in a pyrex, how to do insure that all your melted oils come out and not stick to the sides or bottom of the melting pot? I mean I haven't tried it yet, but that's one thing I am wondering, since it is such a small amount.

My second question is, how do you know how much flavor oil and stevia to add and mica to add? Thanks!!

If you have 2 ozs. of melted ingredients, allow for about 1% of wastage. So have ready about 2.02 ozs.
