I'm planning my first adventure into the soap world by making a salt scrub using the Bramble Berry FBB base. I'm going to try to use some of the ingredients in my current salt scrub as it's the only thing in years to help combat the pimples, but I know I won't be able to make the same.

The list of ingredients on my current scrub include: Sea salt, shea and cocoa butters, macadamia oil, honey, bentonite clay beads, eucalyptus blue gum, peppermint, lemongrass and mandarin oils plus the usual emulsifying waxes and preservative (Optiphen Plus).

I know the sea salt and bentonite beads can easily be added to my FBB base and the cocoa butter softened and mixed through but with things like honey do I use pure honey and mix it? And do I need to get preservatives, just incase?

I'm still working out my order in so nothing is set in stone yet, just after some input from the more knowledgable folk so I won't have mammoth failures when I go about mixing up batches.

I would not add real honey to it. You would compromise the preservative. Add up to 2oz (60ml) of a carrier oil or butter to a lb. of the base. Use 2 to 3% max of fragrance or an essential oil blend. Do not use orange oil, as it can be a sensitizer unless you are making a mechanic's scrub with it. For some people this product can be quite drying. If it was me, I would leave the clay out.
