Hi Everyone -

Is it okay to add cyclomethicone or dimethicone to lotion to give it a bit more slip? Is there an advantage or disadvantage to this?
I saw this commercially made lotion and realized they put dimethicone...the sad part about it is that they used water and glycerin as it's main ingredients and sparingly a couple of extracts :roll:

My lotion recipe is getting better. I reduced the stearic acid to 2% which gives it a less draggy feeling. It feels creamier but I also noticed that it spurts out of the bottle like ribbon and semi-solid...Nonetheless, it's getting better and better!

Yes you can add cyclomethicone or dimethicone. Be aware that it might change the texture or feel of your lotion.

interesting..i will experiment with it then...i guess 1% would be the recommended usage rate then.

i quite like cyclomethicone and/or dimethicone in lotion. used correctly, it leaves a lovely soft powdery finish. 1% is plenty in most formulas.

I use cyclo in everything I make, I personally love the feeling of it - usually 1 - 2% max.
