I made a batch of emulsified sugar scrub this morning. Note to self (and others), don't color the sugar turquoise. Or at least not as dark as I did. I love the scrub though so I guess I'll have to make a non-blueing batch!

It's sure a bummer when you do all that work and it doesn't come out right. I did that yesterday... had an idea for a soap (with lots of parts), spent all day making the different "parts," (and made WAY too much), put it together and hated the results! I wasted way too many pounds of new base, not to mention how frustrated I was by not being able to pull it off like I wanted. I was looking for good transparency, but used some Mica (my favorite ingredient), and a little pearl in some of the pieces. Apparently they bled into the clear sections and the whole thing was cloudy. UGH! It seems that no matter what I do, I don't get the transparency I'm trying to achieve. TSPink seems to have it figured out, but I'll be darn if I know how they accomplish it!! Anyone out there know?

I can't imagine something going awry for you Barbara. Your rock soaps are so pretty I wouldn't be able to use them!

Thank you Renanne. Most of the time, they actually turn out better than I expect, so it's a pleasant surprise when I cut into them. This time, there was less spontaniety to it.... too much planning, and a very specific look expected. When it didn't come off as I hoped, I was really discouraged. Then I realized that it lacked the creativity that made the other soaps work. I'm going to stop trying so hard :). If I can just lick this transparency problem, I'll be most happy.

The beauty of these soap stones is that they become more beautiful with use. The water keeps them "polished" and as they are used, different patterns and in many cases, different colors and shapes emerge. That's one thing that keeps me facinated with them. I have never tired of looking at them when I'm at my sink. They do last a very long time, if kept in a well drained dish or wooden soap rack. When they get too small to be comfortable, they go in a little "collection" of used pieces, which one day is fused together for a new bar. I hate waste! HA!
