Im trying to make somewhat natural (well at least from ingredients that have ecocert) solid shampoo & conditioner bars. The search for suitable ingredients is very challenging, as I want the ingredients not to be toxic to aquatic environment and as ecofriendly as possible.

I have been reading swift crafty monkeys blog, but she uses a lot of ingredients that are not really good for the environment.. However I get some guidelines and tips :)

The hardest thing I guess is to find a conditioning agent that is somewhat natural and biodegradable. I have only come across with distearoylethyl dimonium chloride https://www.gracefruit.com/item/958/Gra ... QF-65.html but I contacted gracefruit and asked if I can use it in place of BTSM if I use a natural emulsifier also and they said no, but didnt explain why. So now I feel Im at the square one again.

I have understood that the conditioning agent has to be cationic so it will stick to negatively charged hair. Distearoylethyl dimonium chloride is, so what is the problem? :/

Secondly, as what Im trying to make is anhydrous, I have understood that I cant use water soluble ingredients. Still I see anhydrous recipes where there are water soluble products in the formula. How can this be?
