Hi, I make room sprays and or body sprays among other items. I have never used polysorbate 20 as I just really didn't see the need for it as my items have always sold just the way that they are, and with NO complaints too! I just write on my spray bottle "SHAKE WELL" And their doesn't seem to be an issue. But, saying that, I have NEVER liked the way that the Essential and or fragrance oil will SIT on top of my water/witch hazel. So that's why I put on the label for customers to shake well before using. Well, I have seen many others use and emulsifier and thought ok, I will try one. I am trying to get a more professional look to my product line.
Ok, so I bought an 8 ounce bottle of polysorbate 20, and it is MY UNDERSTANDING that I need to add an equal amount of poly as I do essential or fragrance oil to my product...I did this ALSO for the vitamin E capsule I added to my liquid. Now, I cannot divulge my exact recipe as I get paid pretty good for making this spray, my customers LOVE it, but, just know, that's what I did...I added the same amount of poly as I did fragrance or essential oil and ALSO for the Vitamin E....ok, so....What did I do wrong? Or, maybe it IS SUPPOSED to look this way and I just don't know this yet...ha ha. The NEW change to my product is that one, I LOVE The Creamy LOOK it has given my spray...and my SCENT just SEEMS to be a bit stronger for some reason. Just SEEMS that way to me, as if to say that EACH SPRAY into the air will get the EXACT amount of fragrance where before it seemed as if even tho the scent was being sprayed out, it was unregulated as to how much each PUMP of the spray actually would get. It would SEEM that my pumps are much more EVEN...if that makes any sense. But, In the PAST, before the poly 20, my oil would just FLOAT on top of the product. But now, it’s the OPPOSITE. They actually SINK!! Is this a Good thing OR a Bad thing? I am not understanding either way...it would SEEM to me that i have done something very wrong as I do NOT see in the market places where THEIR oils separate in the sprays...so, I THINK it is all me...but WHAT? What can I do differently. Oh, and here are three pictures. One, when its ALL shook up, another after its settled and on a desk next to my cold process soap I had made, where you can KIND OF see the bottom desperation, and then ANOTHER CLOSE UP, Where I do believe you can totally see the separation.
