Teach Soap

So I am working on some shave creams. Its a blends of water, stearic acid, myristic, coconut and shea.

One issue I keep having Is the water reactions with the stearic acid. So, I have both in the 180 degree range, pour in the water , and there is an immediate reactions with the stearic forming a massive waxy chunk. I have learned this is a normal stearic water reaction and it render the wand ineffective. So, how can I get a good solid blend on the water and stearic?

Yes, stearic will do that. Try mixing with a stainless steel whisk. It does take some time before everything is mixed. Keep stirring.

problem is it turns to the putty I desire quire fast, then its hard to judge whether the preservative is properly mixed. Was considering replacing most of the stearic with cetyrl....

Mine turn to putty too. I find if I let it "rot" or cure for a while, it's easier to mix. I do not add the preservative while the soap is still warm, as the heat can negate it.

Ok...so I was playing around with a few minor blends last light and tried something. I went and bought the double wisk blender instead of the wand. Instead of dumping all water into oils blend...had beater running on low and just slowly poured in. It reacts the same way...but the blending is easier and it breaks down faster. Don't over blend though...blend thoroughly...let sit for 10 minutes....light blend again....then wait for temp to add preserv....never gets to putty stage.

Thanks for the tip! My husband wants me to make him more cream soap when I get the chance. He loves to shave with it!
