We have very very very hard water, and I am planning to add some EDTA to my next tester batch of shampoo bars to help with the lather.

I am reading conflicting information on how much to use. The standard info (Lotion Crafter)says .2% for shampoo for the water in the shampoo when formulating, but up to
"1.2 – 4% to counteract defoaming action of hardness ions." when used in soap.

So since these bars are a solid - not soap, per se, but a syndet...but still, a solid vs the liquid shampoo for which the .2% applies - would you go higher?

I know this is not exactly what you are asking about, but have you considered using a water filter for your hard water? I have heard there are some that attach to the shower head. I don't think they are too expensive, and they apparently help a lot. Just a thought...

Unfortunately, I don't know much about EDTA or shampoo bars.

I would go with the 0.2%. I have hard water as well and you don't need much of the EDTA to make a difference.
