I just received my kit from BB for making lotion. I am excited to try but I have a question. The kit included phenonip as a preservative. I know I have to be careful and use a bleach solution to clean everything. The kit included 4 oz. jars to put the lotion in. This means sticking my fingers in the jars to use the lotion. Even though I will be very cautious to have clean hands I can see possibly contaminating the lotion. Does the phenonip protect the lotion or does it just make it germ free before I start to use it? Thanks for any advice you can give before I attempt this.

The preservative is to help bacteria from growing in the lotion while it's being used.

It will keep the lotion "fresh" for a significantly longer period of time. I've got a 2 year old lotion that still tests safe for microbe content. It was made with a BB lotion kit and phenonip! Without the preservative your lotion would start to grow microbes almost immediately. :o
