I've just read that shea butter has sunblock properties. Have you heard of this? I would love to use just that for myself at times when I think I need it - which is every few years at best.

At SPF of only 4, it's pretty useless as a sunscreen.

I don't trust myself to make something as important as sunblock. If I remember right, sunblock has to be tested on humans before it's released as one of the drug testing requirements from the FDA. It's taken seriously for a reason. As someone who has had skin cancer, I wouldn't recommend making it at home.

I usually only buy SPF4 or 8 anyway. I can't tell you how many old bottles I have just because I so rarely use it, and then when I go to toss it I think - gee what if I need some more, I'll have to buy a whole new bottle for one time. Maybe I just need to look for sample sizes so they don't go to waste. Figured since I have shea, it would save me some money.

SPF4 or 8 will not protect you. If you believe that, I have an igloo to sell you in Alaska.

I make my own sunscreen, but only for my family. We have been in tropical sun and it has worked perfectly.
I would never dream of selling it, or even giving it away. Too scary and too much red tape.

Irena, I can't afford an igloo anywhere!

Geesh, I have to use a minimum of SPF 60 or I turn into a lobster! Just need someone to invent an SPF 300 for us 'pale' folk! [as an example, I went to buy makeup and my MOM says 'it doesn't come in corpse dear ]

I was in Target yesterday. Couldn't find travel sizes. The lowest I saw was 12 but I did see a 75! I remember when 30 was rare to see. Someday you may get your wish

We bought SPF 100+ for my daughter to take to the lake this year and she came back only mildly burned. I think that's because she forgot to put it on once and then remembered before it got too bad. We have spf 4 as well but that is for when we want to burn, um, I mean, tan. For being 3/4 Cherokee, I am PALE!!! I burn so easy just looking at the SPF 4 bottle.....

I saw SPF 100 today, maybe 110 as well. I don't burn very easily but I'm taking a trip where I'll be outside for a week and would prefer not to at all! (i'd also prefer not to be winter white when I get back either)

What annoys me is that the only travel size I found in 2 stores was SPF 50! At least give me a couple of options!!

I know what you mean mean hestey I am redhead and HAve to use a min. of 60 spf but i love the 100+ stuff

I'm so pale that I make Casper look tan. The SPF 100 doesn't work well for me. I've had better luck with the coppertone water babies 50 SPF.

I use the water babies SPF 60. I tried an SPF 120 once, but it was a sport one and it took me days to get the sticky feeling off my skin! I can't find that water babies SPF 60 in the US though, only in Canada!
