Teach Soap

So this past weekend I decided to reread my Soap and Cosmetic Labeling book. I have not read it since I bought it about 1 1/2 ago. While reading it I forgot a labeling law that I totally forgot. The name of the product cannot have one of the ingredients in it otherwise it is considered misbranding. So I have to change the name of my Whipped Shea Butter. Any ideas? I am looking for a name that would be unisex as I cater to both men and women with this product. So something along the lines of Body Frosting would be out of the question.

I thought about whipped body butter but I know when I hear that name I think of the store bought body butter that is almost like a semi solid lotion in a jar. The texture of mine is very fluffy.

Can the name of the ingredient be broken up? For example, whipped Shea body butter? Or are you saying you can't use the word "Shea" at all?

According to my Soap and Cosmetic Labeling book by Marie Gale, one of the ingredients in the product cannot be listed as any part of the name of the product so therefore not even part of the name of the ingredient can be in the name of the product.

The FDA regs say "The labeling of a cosmetic which contains two or more ingredients may be misleading by reason (among other reasons) of the designation of such cosmetic in such labeling by a name which includes or suggests the name of one or more but not all such ingredients, even though the names of all such ingredients are stated elsewhere in the labeling."

The words "or suggests the name...." would seem to imply that the word "shea" cannot be used in the name, unless that is the only ingredient in the product.

I know, right!? I swear sometimes the biggest frustration is making sure the labeling is all right. That seems to always be my biggest problem when making stuff.

I don't understand why the regs can't just be stated in a clear and easy to read manner! I hate doing labels.

Maybe since you said your butter is more fluffy you can put that in the name? 'Light and fluffy body butter' or 'Fluffy whipped butter'.

Butter Fluff!

I call mine Whipped Bliss but that's just the silly name I gave it for my personal use only. It has a little clipart figure of a woman with a whip on it. I figured that since it sits on the counter in the bathroom it ought to have a label on it. I don't sell, never will, so the label just gives me giggle.
