I think you'll need to send them a list of Coolah approved containers and let them decide which they want to use. Even creams wouldn't work well in those jars because of the shape...

And they're glass!! I have a real aversion to glass things in the bathroom. Could you imagine if you had lotion/cream on your fingers, picked up the jar to get more and it slipped?!

I've been staring at the jars all night. I don't know what to do. It took a week of emailing back and forth to get to this point, and now that they've sent them over, they're going to be ticked off when I tell them I can't use them.

What do I do??

Do I tell them I can't use them? Do I go ahead, use them but include a BIG warning label that using fingers to get lotion will contaminate the big batch and let them figure out how to explain to customers how they're meant to get their lotion? Arg!!! I hate dealing with people that have no idea of the process but want to force their own ideas on you...

Send them some links to suppliers of proper cosmetic jars? That's what I would do. Not only that but what about labels? If they have no idea about jars they will have even less idea about how to label.

This deal doesn't sound very good. Even if they are upset, talk to them about appropriate containers and labeling. You are a good advocate for safety and quality on this forum so maybe you can teach them. Hopefully with more knowledge they will make wiser choices! If not, it may be time to consider passing on this order. Good luck, Coolah!

I have to agree with SudsyFun. You definitely need to let them know that the jars won't work and explain your reasons why you won't use them. But, you'll also need to provide links to alternative packaging that they'll know for sure what will work.

*gulp* Just sent the email off. Linked her to the place I get my bottles from, and the exact bottle I have here. I'm kind of hoping she will just get me to put them in my normal bottles and send hers back. Fingers crossed...

Well, the good news is they actually suspected that the glass would be a problem. (only that they were glass, not that they would be contaminated with fingers)....

They like the bottles I use... ONLY, they now want them 'colour matched' to the fragrances. *head desk, head desk, head desk* I have clear. They don't want clear. They want white, purple, yellow. Too bad. Told them I have clear. LOL! Given you have to order minimum qty's if you want them anything other than stock standard (which is like 3000 bottles!!!), they can have clear... or... clear.

Closed minds are like faulty parachutes; they refuse to open.

That was my suggestion. One day... potentially months (or years!) down the track when this whole 'making soap' craziness is more than a fun money pit of love, I would like to be more co-ordinated etc. But for now, I get what I can afford, which is not a lot right now! LOL

It sounds like you handled it really well!

I bet that if you made up some color coordinating label they'd be thrilled with it. There's a soap company here in town that does that and it looks great!

Good job with explaining the problems to them, Coolah. Too bad they've come up with more. The color coordinated labels should help with their disappointment over bottle colors. Hopefully, no more surprises for you!
