Teach Soap

I used distilled water for everything. How did you know it went bad? Smell?

Hestey added about 2% salt to thicken according to my calcs. That's about the upper limit.

I just bottles everything. Not as thick as I was hoping but not too bad.

Based on my recipe though, should this be clear? It's kind of amber. My crockpot is brown.

I only scented three of the bottles. Should I store the rest in the fridge?

Oh good! I was afraid to scent the others in case they were bad. Does it matter where I store them? No preservative used

I don't think it needs it. None of the big makers, like dr. Bronners use it. And I've had bottles of Dr. b. around for a loooong time with no problems.

That's good tw knoe. One of the reasons I'm doing such small batches, especially while I'm learning.

Did you sterilise the bottles and caps?
Bit of a problem preserving actual soap because the high pH means you can't use potassium sorbate or sodium benzoate, and some of the preservatives will mess up the soap.

My liquid soap was pH 8. And nope, didn't degerm the bottles. They were shipped "sanitized" as long as they remained in the bag. Which was until max 5 minutes before I poured the soap in.

I used Anne-Marie's recipe, its basically a liquid bastile. All of my batches have been around pH 8.
