I was just reading the ingredient list on my Lubriderm lotion wondering what oils were in it and if I would be able to make my own. Most of the ingredients I cannot pronounce, let alone recognize other than water, mineral oil, glycerin, various types of alcohol, stearic acid, various unpronounceables and then, much to my surprise - sodium hydroxide! Now, to my mind this is lye... this is what I use to saponify oils and I am wondering what it is doing in this lotion!? The only oil I see listed is mineral oil which is unsaponifiable, right? Does anyone have an explanation?! I am very curious!!

May you all have a very Blessed Christmas!

It's a ph adjuster.

Lubriderm... horrible! IMO the recipe belongs pre-World War II.
