Does anyone make molds/ moulds at home?

I found a tutorial on YouTube at Soaping101. In September me and my friend made some
which turned out pretty good considering it was a first attempt.
As he lives 300 miles away I'm now having trouble making them

It's basically clean sticky silicone and corn flour.

No matter how much i add more cornflour and mash it up in the mix, it still seems too sticky and/ or breaks at the corners making it horrible, annoying and useless, until.... its hard and exactly what i would want, except it will then be too hard to actually press imprints into.

Does anyone have any ideas and tips on easier ways to make molds/ moulds?

I would find something else. I made a couple like this and over time they deteriorated and completely lost their shape. They also got extremely sticky.

My friend from England is really good at making molds, maybe i should pay him to make some for me!!!

Or find an alternative. He recently posted me a mold he made from sea shells as he lives next to the beach.

Seashells would stick to soap unless you line the mold, or are you talking about a silicone mold?

Much better than my rubbish attempts

Bramble berry has a silicone mold making compound that is durable, easy, and relatively cheap. There is also a video on using it!

There is also a product called Sculpey Mold Maker you might try:



It is oven cured at 275 F/135 C - once cured, it should be able to stand up to soap batter although I have not tried it. And I don't know how the cost would compare.
