Hello,

I followed this recipe here: http://www.lovinsoap.com/2010/09/liquid ... -a-recipe/

Here is the link to the liquid soap series: http://www.lovinsoap.com/category/liquid-soap/

I made liquid soap a few years ago using a different recipe and it was fine but too watery.
Anywho I've made the paste (cooked it for about 4.5 hours). As I used 6% Shea Butter
it isn't completely clear which is fine as I'm planning to use Amber glass bottles.

So the paste is 55 oz according to the recipe. Then I added about 61 oz of water so far and
it's still pretty thick. I went ahead and neutralized with Citric Acid (used 5 grams with 2 oz
water per the recipe), then I added 1% of glycerin to my weighted soap amount. Then
split the batch in half and added about 1.1 oz of scent to each (little less then 3% for the
total batch).

Just did this about half an hour ago and noticed as I was adding scent after neutralizing and
superfatting it got really thick (little less then Vaseline). Tried some and it lathers
well and feels great but it's way too thick. Don't even know if it will fit through a
pump bottle at all. Can I add more liquid or do I have to just leave it alone at this point.
Thinking in a few hours it will be even thicker. If I can't more water
can I heat it up again and mix and cool down to see if that does anything?

What did you scent it with? Some scents do thicken liquid soap so that may be what happened. If it doesn't thin on it's own, you can dilute it more. Some scents also cause a bit of precipitation that may not stay mixed into the LS. Good luck!

Give it some time. Some fragrances and EO's can thicken liquid soap; some can thin it.

SudsyFun,

I used an EO blend for both, one had Citronella/Lemongrass which I know was part of the issue because when I use it in CP it's a fast mover. The other was Lavender/Fennel.
It was thick before I added either of them though after adding the Glycerin superfat. Just wondering if I can thin it out with water.

soapbudddy,

How long should I wait? If it's still thick can I heat it up and add more water (probably would start with about 5 oz per batch) My total weight was about 95 oz and split it into 47.5 oz batches.

Wait at least a couple of days. I added lavender to my LS and it turned into thick jelly. After about a week it settled into a nice thick liquid soap.

Irena,

Thanks, was kind of freaking out as it's really thick like vaseline. Just checked on the one batch with Lav/Fennel and there is a tiny outside layer that looks like it's a bit clearer then the rest so maybe waiting is the trick after all.

I decided to add 5 oz of water to each half since it was like glue.
After heating it up and adding water I notice a layer of foam on top.
Can I just skim that off to use the liquid soap below or is there a way
to mix that in again?

Didn't mean photo to be so big as Photobucket has a new interface that I'm trying to learn.

You can skim the layer off the top.

soapbuddy,

Thanks, thought I had to get this mixed in somehow.
I've tried mixing but as soon as it cools I have the foam again.
