I read that polysorbate 80 is what you use for bath bombs but all I have is 20 at the moment. Is this fine to use? Do I really need to have both?

Is it just to make the fo disperse better in the water from the bath? If so, then Poly 20 will work.

How much of the polysorbate do you use for bath bombs

Basically as much as the FO depending on the batch size. I don't have any heavy oils in my recipe so 20 should be fine? I just was reading about how 20 is best for room sprays and such and 80 for bath bombs and heavier oils. I just wanted to be sure because I don't have 80 and I have been using 20 with no problems.

I wrote up a post on this quite some time ago. You can read it here:

Thanks for that! I'll just keep using the 20 because it seems to be just fine. No ring or slippery tub and they dry out rather quickly. I get a little foam but not enough to leave any residue behind. I'm crossing poly 80 off my order list for now. The list is long enough!

I use Poly 20 to solubize essential oils and poly 80 for base oils or butters.

I have never heard of using any polys in bath bombs and have never used it myself in BB's what recipe is it? If you trying to incorporate the FO into the mix you can use tapioca starch, just mix your FO into about a quarter cup of TS and it will carry it through your mixture,or you can just add your FO to whatever oil or liquid you are using to bind the mixture. :D

It helps the oils disperse throughout your bath and not just float on top of the water.

Well to each his own but Anne Maries bath bomb recipe is fantastic , can be tweaked ,doesn't leave a residue and uses no poly's. just sayin :)

I don't use poly in mine either. But I have before. I didn't care for the feel of it, personally, so I took it out. But I understand why people do use it. Those that have used my bath bombs without the poly LOVE the way they feel afterward. BUT the tub always needs to be cleaned afterward because of the oil. With the poly the need to immediately clean the tub isn't there. So it is a matter of preference.
