I found a simple recipie for a mango butter facial cream that I was wanting to try.
3T Mango Butter
1T Peach Kernel oil ( because thats what i have )
2 dropps EO ( not going to use any )
.5% preservitive?
I dont have any preservative to use but im kinda confused as to why it calls for it. To my understanding you dont need one as long as there is no water in the recipie right? Also how long will this cream be good for wouldnt it be the shelf life of the oil? What is the shelflife of peach kernel oil anyway? BB doesnt say on their site. Thanks

Peach Kernel Oil usually has a shelf life of about 2 years. But that's from when it's made, so I'd say 1 yr instead.

You wouldn't "need" a preservative really. But since you're most likely going to be dipping your fingers into this and then spreading it on your face, that can introduce bacteria and moisture from your fingers or the humidity in the air can introduce a nice environment for the bacteria to grow.

A lot of people do use preservatives in lotion bars.

But honestly the chance of bacteria surviving and breeding in a facial cream like your recipe shows or a lotion bar is very slim. So that's why I said that it's not really "needed".

would it be better to put the cream in a bottle then?

Mango butter's pretty hard, I don't think that it would come out of a bottle very well. If you're really worried about introducing bacteria to it, I'd use the sample sticks each time to take the cream out of the container.

ok so i made this a couple hours ago. the instructions were to melt MB add Oil then let sit for a couple hours. It's been 2 1/2 hrs now and its still liquid. has it just not sat long enough? when will it start to solidify?

My mango butter is very soft, if your is similar it may not solidify. Mine melts with the heat from my hands, easily!

The final consistency could take up to a couple of days. I don't use a preservative in lotion bars.

I have heard it could take up to 3 days for the product to solidify for something with cocoa butter so I assume mango butter is the same. I made some bath melts that were liquid for a few days but eventually did set up.

I would convert that recipe into grams or ounces, so you will get the same exact product each and every time.

Wasnt exactly like i thought it would be but i have been using it and i like it. They made it sound more like a cream turned out to be a balm. When I run through this batch i will probably do a whipped butter.
