If I want a bit more "glide", I guess, in my lip balm, should I increase the oil amount? I'm using the standard one-third each oils/butters/waxes right now. If I went with, say, 40% oil, 30% beeswax, and 30% butter, would that give me what I am looking for?

I just love the way the Bonne Bell Lip Smackers go on. I know they use mineral oil (and I don't, nor do I intend to), but I am trying to make something close to that.

Thanks.

Anita

It depends which oil(s) you are using at the 40%. I would try olive oil with your other oils. Make a small batch and see how you like it. Keep good notes. My lip balms are harder due to local heat.

I dragged this post up to say I've tinkered a bit with my lip balm formulas and am very happy with the results.

I did up the oil (and I use castor oil) amount to 40%. I changed my butter from shea to cocoa.

Also, I use the ButterEZ. I originally used it at about 15%, as I had read that amount was helpful in reducing graininess. The day I made the switch, I accidentally dropped in a blob that was twice the size I was intending to, which gave me about 30% instead of 15%. And I really liked the result, so I'm keeping that ingredient at that level.

So I'm much happier with my lip balms now. Should still play with the veggie waxes, I suppose. :)
