Hello guys:

I've made my first lotion bar 2 days ago. Used Beeswax, Avocato oil, Sweet Almond Oil and a little essencial oils for scent. The end result was very positive when is comes to softness and hrdness of the bar but I had 2 problems:

1-The residue on the skin is a little too sticky for my taste.
2-The oney scent from the beeswax is all I could smell in the end, even with good quantities of EOs. I should say that I absolutely hate the scent of honey (dont know why:)) I HATE IT!!!

Do you guys have any idea how can I get an interesting recipe that could solve both the problems? (Not sticky, no scent appart from the EOs)

Thank you very mutch in advance for the feedback. You've been helping me a lot with my fascination with the DIY fragrance world:)

Try adding a hard butter like cocoa butter. You can also add cornstarch--maybe a tablespoon per pound--to make the, less greasy.

I use EOs at about 1-2% depending on the EO, and that is fine for scenting. As for not liking the beeswax smell, white beeswax has a bit less scent than yellow.

Like Mellifera said, adding a hard butter will help get rid of that stickiness.

Plus, adding a butter means you should be able to decrease your beeswax. Are you using yellow or white beeswax? I use white beeswax in my lotion bars and lip balms and I can not smell any honey, I've got a very sensitive nose when it comes to smells. I'm like a bloodhound ;)

But you could also switch to candellila or carnauba wax instead.

A good lotion bar recipe to start with is 1/3 wax, 1/3 oil, 1/3 butters. Then you can just tweak it to your liking.

I would leave out the beeswax and use another wax. Weigh everything. A "little essential oil" doesn't tell me much.
