How would you guys suggest packaging lotion bars? Any recommended method other than the metal tins? They are so expensive!

I use the deodorant type of containers. Only one of my lotion bars has a tin.

Yes I've seen that as well. I am assuming tissue paper+plastic bags or even glassine bags wouldn't hold up well to being handled and such.

I love the tins, makes it portable and the tin itself is like $0.53 per tin at specialtybottle.com so u could easily charge $1.00 more to cover the tin. It makes it seem more professional than wrapping in saran wrap (which was my initial idea).
We use a small "guest" soap mold with a bee shape on the top and it fits right in the tin and is super cute.
Could also wrap in parchment paper and put into a soap box to sale. Not sure.if that would be much cheaper.

Paper Mart has them for $0.46 each. They come in a package of 24 so you would have to commit to at least that many but they are a quick shipper and I order from them regularly.

Do you have any problem with the tins getting rusty after a while? I've been using the deoderant-type tubes when giving lotion bars away, but for my personal use I just store them in a plastic container.

I've never had a problem with tins, but mine are coated. At first, I packaged mine in baggies-- Lush does! But I like the tins better.

I use either tins or small deodorant tubes.

I have used tins for sugar scrub for lips, lip balm, and lotion bars without the rust problem. However b/c I needed something small and a tin was handy I put lotion in one without thinking about it and after a few days there was a bright orange ring around the top of the lotion. So as long as there is no water in the product there should be no rust. Good for lotion bar, bad for lotion =)

I think it was coated, the only part that rusted was where the lip was curled under so I don't think the coating got up under that area.

Hands and fingers have moisture, which could rub off on the tin. So even if the lotion bar has no water, if some moisture gets into it, it can rust. Get the coated kind, then you won't need to worry about rust.
