What preservatives are safe for eye creams?

As a side note, I'm currently deciding between Optiphen ND and Liquid Germall Plus for lotions and scrubs. However, I read that Optiphen ND can cause damage to eye tissue...

I keep running into sellers whose lotions and creams do not have preservatives in them. They claim to have natural preservatives like Vitamin E and Grape Seed Extract. It's scary to think what kind of nasties are growing in their lotions. There is a whole slew of eye creams on Etsy without preservatives.... can you imagine putting something with bacteria like that around your eyes? *shudders*

Are there any good resources about preservatives... which ones are being used commercially, why they are bad, and which preservatives are best? I want to be educated so I don't harm someone in the future. I also want to be able to educate customers who ask.

Take a look at Polyaminopropyl Biguanide aka Cosmocil CQ. As with any product like this, you should get it tested. I recommend Cindy at The Sage Script Institute. Her prices for testing are quite reasonable.

I will look into that. Thank you. Yes, I definitely want to get it tested. Lotions and creams really freak me out actually because I'm scared of harming someone. So I would have to be 100% confident before I even thought of selling.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Prices seem reasonable. I'm lucky in that my wife used to teach microbiology so we have unofficial access to a well equipped facility. And no FDA thank goodness. We go through the public health department here. Test everything. It makes me cringe some of the stuff I see advertised with 'natural' preservative systems. There's one company advertising 'no' preservatives at all because the product is sealed so well that bacteria can't get in. . . no comment. The first instance may be the last.
