I have make Anne Marie recipe for bath balm cupcakes and frosting several times and just love, but I always end up with what looks like mold
between the frosting and the cup cake. I make sure I use a fo that does not contain vanilla because I thought that could be the problem first time. Does anyone have any ideas or diff recipe for frosting that I could try?
Thanks
Janie :?

You're not alone. This has happened to me three times in a row with a non-discoloring fragrance oil too. The only time this didn't happen was when I made an EXTREMELY thick meringue frosting that was very dry and piped it onto a piece of wax paper. I let it harden, peeled it off, and glued it on with melt-and-pour soap. I think the brown spots occur when the wet frosting hit the citric acid and some sort of chemical reaction occurs. I'm not positive, but that's my theory. Hope this helps! :D

I used the Soap Queen recipe but excluded the SLS so yes, I suppose you could eat it if I hadn't added fragrance oil and colorant.

Thanks again Katie, I just wondered if you used a recipe without the oil thinking it would be harder. I am going to try your way in the morning.
