Has anyone made an all natural shampoo for dogs?

I think there was a thread awhile back in the CP section (???) about this. You may be able to do a search to find it.

I did a quick search for "DOG" and found quite a few different threads on the subject of shampoo so you should be able to find what you need.

I recently made one. Used Neem, Cedar EO, Citronelle EO, Tea tree EO in it and some others to discourage fleas. A Chamomile infusion would have also been nice but I didn't think of it at the time. Also added honey and horsetail extract to it but didn't get to fancy with the ingredients otherwise.

Please be aware that some EOs are toxic to dogs and cats. Here is a link of ones that are safe to use:

There is still some question about how safe tea tree oil is on dogs, so you may want to avoid it just in case.

I made the mistake of using Tea Tree oil in a soap for my Jack Russell Terrier, only around a ml in 2 pounds of soap, pour thing went all drowsy and lost the use of his legs temporarily, it was the scariest 48 hours of my life! I vowed to never again attempt anything homemade again for my animals. I don't believe in animal testing for cosmetic use so why on earth did I think it was ok to use a concoction I dreamt up (I am no better than the animal testers, in fact probably worse as it was a family pet I was testing on! ) without any knowledge of how a dogs nervous system worked, I made assumptions that tea tree was ok to use after reading other peoples recipes online.

Please, please make sure you have a good knowledge of the ingredients you are using and get advice from a vet. I have not worked with Essential oils since this episode and probably never will again

Animal skin has a different pH then human skin. I prefer pH balanced shampoos specifically made for dogs.

I agree lots of knowledge must go into this one. I make one and have for 2 years. I use very small amounts of EO (very small) and use Soap Queens recipe for liquid soap which consist of Olive and Castor oil and I add Vit E and that is it. I use a Apple Cider Vinegar rinse and love it.
