Hello!

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience or knowledge of using green pigments, or ingredients which give a green tint in face creams to reduce redness? (Usually for rosacea type skin, acne or other red looking blotches or blemishes.)

Some of the products on the market include green tea extract, spirulina, chromium oxide, pigments or other mineral extracts. They are usually put alongside zinc and titanium oxide.

I'm interested in what might work best to give the look of an instant reduction in redness, while other ingredients in my face cream continue to work. Are there any of these things that are better with spots or better with just a general redness, and should any of them be avoided around scabs, recently open wounds/spots (or closed over ones that naughty people might scratch at!) If you were making something like that, what would you go for?

Thanks... Magia x

Chromium oxide should work. You need the green to countereact with the red. Red+green = brown.

I have a classic case of rosacea, as does the rest of my family. I also have a mild type of psoriasis that only affects my face (can't remember the name). Despite all the claims of cosmetics & personal products manufacturers I haven't found one product that helped with the redness or the peeling. There are probably people out there that are still spending their money on these types of products, but I wouldn't spend another nickel on them.

My homemade lard based soap works best for me. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude or negative. This is just my personal experience. I don't think it's worth the money you would spend on it. :|

I understand how mixing green with red will create brown but will a green mineral or powder in a face cream mix with the pigment of one's skin? I would think that it would just create a green layer like a foundation except lighter which would result in a slight green tint. Wouldn't it be like putting green eye shadow on or any other color? With that said, could the face cream be tinted with the desired skin color which may help to hide the acne or redness?

I have used a green tinted moisturizer before when i had broken capillaries in my cheeks. It did reduce redness but I hated how it felt on my skin. My face felt like it was suffocating or inside a mask or something. I quit using it quite fast and got some laser for those pinky pink cheeks of mine.

Good luck

I used to have a green moisturiser/base as a teen that seemed to help reduce redness with spots. Long time ago. Actually, my initial application, is to include it in a cream I'm making for cold sores! It won't be the main selling point... that will be the CLOVE OIL! (And other ingredients to help make the nasty things go away! Though clove oil is the best thing I've found. I'd just dab some of that on myself, but the cream is for a friend...). I just had the thought of including some kind of green pigment, so that it helps also cover up the redness/makes it look like it's having some instant effect, while the good stuff that ACTUALLY makes it better does it's work! I might well do the same if/when I start working on some general moisturisers/face creams for oily/acne-prone skin... but it won't be the main selling point (probably just a footnote on the ingredients list somewhere), it'll be the instant feel-good factor upon application, while the active ingredients continue to do their magic! I want to get it right though!

Of course! Though it's only for dabbing just onto the cold sore. I think last time I had a cold sore, I mixed some with a little chamomile put a few drops on my finger and dabbed it on with no ill effects... but sometimes other people... they like things to come in a cream or a pot with a label before they think it will work!
