I love making lotion bars but always wonder how to know how much ess oil or FO to add per oz of lotion bar. I read that you add 1tsp per lb but does that count for all oils? Some are stronger then others such as eucalyptus. It would be a lot stronger then a coconut FO right? I looked at the fragrance calculator on another site but wasn't sure if the lotion counted for lotion bars or just lotion so im still unsure of how much to use. I use 5oz of coconut oil, 4oz bees wax and 4 oz Shea butter.

When I first started making lotion bars, I made a large batch of unscented - poured into 2 oz molds. Then, when I want to experiment with EOs or FOs, I take a 2oz bar, gently remelt it, and add 4 drops for a strong EO/FO and 6 for a weaker one. Then I compare over the next few days, taking notes and deciding what is right for each scent.
Sometimes it takes a bit of experimenting to see what strength overcomes the natural scent of things like cocoa butter and beeswax.

For example, I find spearmint and lavender to be very strong, but the citrus or floral ones to be much lighter.
For other products - I use 2% as my starting point, then adjust up or down from there.
It would be a lot easier if there were some hard and fast rules...lol
