HI all!
I am having major problems with my bath bombs. They will not stay round. I have tried so many different recipes and methods that I am going out of my mind with confusion. I have tried using clays, oils, butter, water as a binder and then witch hazel, milks etc. Nothing works. So I then tried apple trays, which made them go kind of spaceship looking then a towel to reduce the flat bottom. Uuugh! They keeping going flat on the bottom, and not just a little bit they end up looking like half moon things. I am at my wits end, but not ready to give up...yet. Any help would be great!
My basic recipe is 2 parts bicarb, 1 part citric, 1tsp fragrance and witch hazel to bind until like just holds together. I have had some success with adding a tbs of oil to the mix and it has held together all by itself without witch hazel, and they look awesome - for about 7 hours, then start to go soft and get little bubbles and the oil leaks out. Would corn startch work? It takes them a long while to dry, and they aren't terrible but nowhere near as good as I've seen from others. Sorry for the long winded explanation, but I am seriously so over it. I can do everything else, lotions, scrubs etc, but not these, I mean people make these with their kids! I feel like I'm going crazy. Any help would be awesome!

It sounds like they may be starting to activate when you're letting them sit. Is there a lot of moisture in the air in your home? That can be a problem if there is.

Humidity can be a huge culprit. I gave up fighting to get the round ones..I just do halves and use decorated molds :D

ellibella, try leaving out the liquid oil and use melted coco butter instead, this way when it cools it wil harden, also make sure whateber your putting the mixture into you compress with all your might then add more mixture if it squishes down to much and compress again,I have spent the last 2 weeks experimenting with this and I feel your pain. :) I ended up useing a 1/3rd measuring cup as my mold its nice and round and gives me a good sized product :) . good luck

Thanks guys! My house does absorb the heat and cold so I guess moisture could absorb just as easily. Maybe I will try them at my mums house for the winter. I will try melted coaoa butter, I was curious as it is a hard butter. Thanks so much all of you!

The best recipe I have found for bath bombs has honey powder, milk powder and oatmeal.. in addition to the sodium bicarb and citric acid. I also put the cocoa butter in. The powders help to absorb some of the liquid and maks a nice hard bomb. If you don't have the milk powders maybe try using some ground oatmeal.

Hi everyone.... I'm totally new here, having just found this forum and made my very first bath bombs today! They came out perfect for a while and I was soooo proud! But this evening after they had been out of the heart mold for about 2 hours I looked at them and they are becoming kinda blotchy on the surface so I assumed that I too was having humidity issues. We are in central VA and it's been terrible today! Can someone tell me what is the best way to store the bath bombs after they harden? I tried putting them in a baggie but that seemed to worsen the problem and when I checked the baggie it looked as if it would explode from the soda! They are resting in the open air for now but I have visions of coming down in the morning and finding them in large puddles of fluff. I used the recipe that came with the bath bomb kit from BB.
Thanks everyone... looking forward to getting to know everyone and seeing all the wonderful inspiration here!

I am in Central Va too. It sure has been hot and humid lately. How do the bombs turn out.
