Teach Soap

Hi all,

I'm absolutely desperate to see if any of you knowledgable gals (and guys?) out there can help me. I'm new to making lip balms --- the first batch I made was absolutely perfect, but every batch since then has been grainy. I've adjusted all the ingredients, tried different formulas, varied the order I added the ingredients, kept it on the heat for a long time, short time, etc. I've tried just about everything I can think of. Could it be my ingredients?? Could I have possibly gotten a bad batch? Nothing seems spoiled, though. My typical formula goes something like this:

-- Cocoa butter (deodorized) .75 tsp
-- Coconut oil 2 tsp
-- Avocado oil 3 tsp
-- Carnauba wax 1 tsp

I've tried the CO & wax; CO, wax, & AO; and a combo of all four in varying amounts. I melt this all on the stove in a small metal bowl over a pot of water.

Any thoughts?? (I would be extremely grateful!!)

It could be your cocoa butter.

It could be the cocoa butter, since that too can get grainy.
But it could also be your carnauba wax.
Can I ask where you get your carnauba wax from?
I'm asking because most of places I've seen say to use it at about 2% of your base.
I converted your recipe before the wax is added to ml (because it's easier for me to figure out LOL)
The 5.75 tsp comes to 28.03412992 ml.
2% of that is .566825984 ml
You added 1 tsp of wax, which is 4 ml. Which seems like it may be a lot.

Also, all the carnauba wax I've ever used says that it needs to be heated to at least 180 degrees and has to be stirred with the rest of the oils/butters very, very well because it doesn't incorporate as well as beeswax.
