I'm formulating my first shampoo with BrambleBerry's Natural Castile Liquid Soap (http://www.brambleberry.com/Natural-Cas ... P4609.aspx) and have a couple of questions. Most homemade shampoo recipes I've come across online use equal parts liquid castile soap and distilled water. I wanted to pearlize it with Dead Sea Salt as BB recommends, but I dumped my last 4 oz of DSS into 24 oz of water, thinking I had more when what I actually have is Epsom and Kosher Sea Salt. Anyway, would it work to add 24 ml of salt water to 16 oz of castile soap instead of 12 ml, since I used half as much salt? And from there, should I still add the remaining 15 oz of distilled water?

I know that's a verbose question... thank you in advance! This community is the best.

I don't know. I tried handmade soap and castille soap and they all make my hair frizzy and dried out like straw. BTW I have thin, straight baby fine hair.

You could definitely try that "fix" but I realllllllly wonder about putting all that water into the soap. It's already pretty thin so I'm worried about you getting a really thin final product with a full 15 ounces of water added to an already thin'ish product so maybe start with less water (since you can always add more).

I always add my water first and then add the salt because if you add the salt first and it thickens up, it's more difficult to add the water afterward (think: mixing hardened jello with water). =)

Thank you both! I did end up adding that much water, but only because I added too much salt... I didn't realize it would take a little while to thicken, so I threw in an extra two pinches and it got much too thick. Now I'm trying to decide if I'm going to add more castile soap (right now it doesn't lather very well at all) or just toss the batch out as a lost cause and try again from scratch.
