Good Afternoon All -

I have been approached by my DH's Boss for products that would help his sister with her Psoriasis issues. I have been looking on the web to see what ingredients might be most beneficial and then a light bulb went off and I thought - silly, you have the best resources of info available right here on this forum!

So if you would't mind sharing what ingredients you would use for a Psoriasis product and maybe what product you would use it in; lotion, soap, balms, salts, etc.

Her Dr. told her Salt Soaks would be good and Salt Scrubs, no Fragrance obviously.

I'm thinking Chamomile and Aloe would be good. Any input is so appreciated!
Thanks,
Jan

I would make her an unscented, uncolored salt bar. Try a recipe with mostly olive and maybe some mango butter, castor & palm kernel. Add about a 1/2 cup of salt to 1 l b. of raw soap batch.

Thanks Soap Buddy as always!

I will be making some batches this weekend, so I will add something like this to the mix.

Would something like a Rose EO be too much for her skin? I'm sure she'd like a scent (what woman doesn't) but not at the cost of irritation. Maybe her condition is too bad for it though... I wouldn't use FO's for a skin complaint (a friend of mine has ultra sensitive skin and I wouldn't give her anything with an FO just in case) but EO's may help (possibly).

Thanks for the responses. I'm going with plain and unscented at this point. I do not know this person, she is the sister to myu husbands boss - so I'm gonna be as gentle and mild as possible.

Another couple questions though - I was sitting down just running some recipes through the soap calc and i get a 0 for cleansing with a olive olive oil at 80%, PKO at 10%, Shea Butter at 3% (I don't have any mango right now) and Castor at 7%. I used a Superfat at 6%.

Does this sound like a reasonable recipe to you? If I am getting a zero with these oils (which is expected) I'm a little unclear on it's cleaning ability.

I was also going to do this as a goat's milk soap - what do you think of that as a base ingredient? To my mind it would be soothing, but I have never dealt with this kind of skin condition before, so not sure if goat's milk would help or irritate.

Thanks!

I just re-ran the recipe and got 6% in cleansing - so never mind that question :)

What do you think about using the goat's milk though?

I would not use any milk if you are dealing with psoriasis. In my humble opinion.

Thanks Spotted Cat! Can I ask Why? For my own education and understanding.

Everything I have read talks about milk being soothing and helpful to skin?

I have been trying to educate myself on the Psoriasis condition so I can better understand what is happening to the skin/body and what might be helpful.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info, I did not realize that. Good thing to know!

I will stick with the Olive Salt Bar and see how she does with it.

Now I'm off to formulate a lotion for her!

Psoriasis is a medical condition that appears when skin cells grow speedily. Faulty signals in the immune system cause new skin cells to form in days not in weeks. The body does not throws away these excess skin cells, so the cells pile up on the surface of the skin and lesions form. Psoriasis is not contagious.
