I would love to try to make some solid bubble bars. Bramble Berry doesn't yet have any tutorials or recipes (that I know of) for solid bubble bars though I've heard they might offer them in the future. In the meantime, is there somewhere else I can find recipes for bubble bars?

Thanks!

Hey thanks!! I'll have to figure out where to get a couple of those ingredients since I'm not familiar with them and I don't think I've seen them on the Bramble Berry web site. But this looks like a cool recipe!

Ummm . . . never mind . . . I see that web site sells those ingredients.

You can also look and see what they put into the Lush ones. I know that using Cream of Tartar instead of Citric Acid makes a big difference to making them more bubble bar and less bomb. (There's an article on their website I think). The recipe you found looks very similar to a lot of the ingredients on the Lush ones.

One of my favourite Lush bubble bars has these ingredients:

Sodium Bicarbonate, Cream of Tartar (Potassium bitartrate), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lauryl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, (Up to this point really similar to the recipe you found)

Patchouli Oil (Pogostemon cablin), Frankincense Resinoid (Boswellia carterii), Cinnamon Leaf Oil (Cinnamomum zeylanicum), *Eugenol, *Limonene, *Linalool, Perfume, Colour 61585

Does anyone know if I'm right in thinking that where it says Frankincense Resinoid, that implies that rather than the essential oil, they have got some actual chunks of frankincense resin- the proper stuff and somehow incorporated it? I've been thinking of getting some myself and trying to incorporate it for ages. (Yes, and I love a good excuse for a shopping trip to Camden, umm Camden in London, England I mean...)

It's possible that the Frankincense Resinoid was infused into one of their ingredients. It is normally hard to dissolve.

yes it is hard to disolve. i usually crunch it up to a powder and incorporate it that way.

I'm addicted to Google. I burn that search engine up. 8)

Sometimes I come across bad info or questionable suppliers though so I do like to check with the people who have been doing this longer than I have. Thank goodness for soaping forums like this one! I love speaking with, and getting advice from, such helpful people.

So I actually want to know what everyone's preference is regarding bubble bars vs. bath bombs? They seem to be similar as in you throw them into the tub and they fizz, is that correct? I have terrible luck with bath bombs mainly because I just cannot work up excitement over this product. I only recently started hearing about bubble bars, they sound like bath fizzies to me, is this correct? What are the differences aside from just ingredients? Are they easier to make?

Thanks all!
Erin

Bubble Bars are vaguely similar, in that you put them in the bath water, like bath bombs (fizzies). If you want to add bubbles to your bath bomb, you can, just add SLS, or SLSa, depending on your preference. I am sure you have heard that SLS may be considered harmful, as opposed to SLSa, which hasn't. Bubble Bars can be made in several different ways, some try to dupe L*sh's recipe, there are recipes on the net that is just comprised of baking soda, glycerin, cream of tartar and SLSa, fragrance oil, color and other additives if preferred. I have personally madee these and there is a little bit of tweaking involved, to your preference of course. There is another resipe that includes cocamide dea and cocamidopropyl betaine. One is a surfactant and the other is a thickener. In my opinion, these ingredients can be costly, I think either recipe would be ok, depending on your budget. Bubble Bars seem to be the new craze, they are like bubble baths, just in solid form. if I missed something, someone please follow behind me!! :)

With a bath bomb, you would usually fill the bath first, then climb in and get comfy, drop the whole thing in and watch it fizz and float, and sometimes froth around smelling lovely and doing nice skin softening things (well mine do).

With a bubble bar, you would rather break a piece off, and crumble it under the hot running bath tap before you climb in, and you get many many bubbles and often pretty coloured bath water. They tend to last a bit longer (most of the Lush ones I can get about 4 baths out of, am planning to start making my own this week, once I get supplies!), but then I usually try to put some extra exciting things into my bath bombs (like cocoa butter and/or flower petals etc) to balance out charging more per bath for them. Lush seem to create some of theirs in a log format and then slice them into pieces to sell.
