I bought a lotion base and have a question about additives, especially fo's and e-wax. Are you able to add E-wax to a lotion base, if so, what will this do for the product, and how do i incorporate the fragrance oils into it? I ask this because for Xmas, I made lotion for all of my co-workers and one of the major complaints was that the oil (FO) separated, they had to shake it every time they used it. I do not have the funds to make lotion by scratch, so I buy the pre-made base. Also, it states that you are able to make different levels of this base, meaning that you can leave it as is whcih is a body butter consistency, adding water at different measurements will allow it to be other things such as lotion, cream, body milk, etc. Thank you

Can I ask where you got your base and which base it was?
Also, how much fo did you add and how much water?
How high are you heating your base, because that can also make a difference.


Most lotion bases already have binding agents in them, like Carbomer or Glyceryl Stearate.

I get my base from BB and I don't heat it at all. I pump out the amount I need into a ziplock or a pastry bag, add the FO's or EO's and "mush" (that's a technical term ya know) it up for about 10 minutes. I make sure that all the oils are incorporated and then pipe the lotion into bottles. I've never had a problem with it separating.

E-wax needs to be heated to melt. Anytime you warm up your lotion base, you are compromising the preservative. Adding EO's or FO's to a base should not make it separate. Is it possible that you are adding too much scent?

I bought the base @ NGC, I guess I might be adding too much FO, I don't heat the base because it doesn't say to, it just says to add distilled water and it's their Goat's Milk base.

I was reading the instructions for using it and in one part it says to use 1-3% fo, but then towards the end it says it can accept up to 2% of oily components.
How much fo's are you adding, I think maybe that could be the problem, too.
