Teach Soap

Hi, all,

I decided to try out a new liquid soap formulation using 25% palm kernel oil (I'm allergic to coconut), 2% shea butter (for my dry skin), and the rest different soft oils, with pk oil at the highest percentage. However, I'm not sure what dilution percentage to use. I know the general rule of thumb is to do a 40% dilution for soaps high in coconut or pk, but how high is high enough to warrant that? Being that my recipe is over 70% soft oils, would 25% be enough?

Any tips would be really helpful, as this is only my fourth batch of liquid soap, and my first attempt at writing a recipe. Thanks, all!

(I know, I know, shea butter isn't very good for producing a clear liquid soap, but frankly, crystal clarity isn't my goal, as I find most liquid soaps way too drying for my skin.)

Go with less water than what is reccomended. Most every recipe I tried when I got started with liquid soaps left me with very thin soap and short on lather. Also it is easy to add more later and hard to get it out once you have added it. The drawback with adding less water is it will be harder to get all of your paste to dissolve. The method I like best is to do it in a crockpot set at warm and stir often.
