Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum and quite a new soaper. I have been making for around 6 months and now I have moved onto Bath Bomb making! I then came across this forum! How happy I am!

I have a question. Can you use soap liquid colourants in bath bombs? I made a few bombs the other day, and the colour just stayed in little lumps. I then tried adding it to my water spray, but this didn't produce a strong enough colour.

Does anyone have any tips on how to use the liquid colourants to create a fairly strong colour without it lumping up?

I have heard of powdered colours, but have no idea if I can just go and buy a load of powdered colours, or if there are any you specifically cant use? (I think I read that somewhere)

Also, can you add the same amount of essential oils / fragrance oils to bombs as you can to soap? i.e some up to 1%, some up to 2% - or are there different rules that I am unaware of? I am certified to make soap but not Bath Bombs.....yet!...

I have tried finding this info on the net and so far have had no luck.

Looking forward to speaking to you all a bit more in the future as I embark on my fizzy journey! :D

Most liquid colorants that are premixed are water based. That's most likely why it ended up as a lump. If you add too much color, there's a chance that it will stain the tub or a washcloth. You can try FD&C Lakes; those are oil soluble only. I tend to err on the side of caution for fragrances and use about 0.5 oz. per lb. of base.

Thank you for the reply Soapbuddy!

I am based in the UK and I'm not sure I can get the Lakes colours here, I will have a hunt around.

Are the powdered colours a possibility?

I also want to produce a longer fizz. I started with the recipe of 3 parts bicarb, 1 part citric acid. Are there any set rules as to if you can add more citric acid? Would this end up drying skin?

Thank you!

Hi,

Im new to making bath bombs too. I'm actually about to make my first batch tomorrow. I was talking to a friend earlier who told me that using the powdered colors work better. She said that you can use liquid but it's a pain. I guess when the color bubbles up you just keep stirring til it dissolves?

I think I'm going to pick up some of the powdered colors tomorrow.

Goodluck on your bombs...I'll let you know how mine come out <3

Hi All!

I ordered some powdered colourant after having no luck with liquid colourants! They just made a mess. Mine are 'water soluble' and are from Bathbomb.biz - so I'm presuming they are cosmetic! 8)

I will let you know how I get on with them and will play around with some new ratios of bicarb & citric acid x
