Hello,

I am struggling to make my liquid soap and not sure if my patients isnt where it should be or what I'm doing wrong :? . My first time I had problems diluting my paste. This time I didn't really even get my paste made. While stirring to trace, my pot erupted. What was left looked like what paste should look like but I had so much to run out the pot that was on the side of my stove and floor that I didn't continue because I wasn't sure how much I had left and how that would affect the rest of my calculations.

I used the summer bee meadow calculator and had a recipe that called for 50 oz of oils, 29.3 oz of h2O and 11.4 oz of koh. I was using a 8qt pot and a stick blender. I also experienced foaming/puffing when adding the koh+h2o to the oils. I have NO IDEA whats going on and what I'm doing wrong. I really want this to work. PLEASE HELP

For diluting your paste I use a crocpot. Well I use the crocpot to cook it as well. But when you add your water I set mine to warm and keep the lid on except to stir often. Do this for 2 or 3 hours then leave the lisd on and let it set overnight. By morning you should be in good shape, if not warm it a few more hours.

Sorry to hear your soap erupted. I try to tell first time liquid soap makers to use a pot at least 4x the size of the liquids you put into it untill you get a better feel for it. To stop that from happening again use your stick blender a little less and stir with a spoon a little more. It is air getting wipped into your soap that caused that. If it happens again grab that spoon fast and stir like crazy. It will allow the air to escape and it will settle back down again.

Also I have my oils and my lye mixture at about 160 deg. each when I mix them together. I would cut that recipe in half to start with as well.

Bruce
