Teach Soap

Hi Everyone,

I haven't been around for a while, I was finishing up school. Graduated this weekend! So tonight I am playing around with a body butter base I ordered. Now here is where I need help. The directions say to add only 1% or 10ml fragrance for every 1 Liter of product. I only want to use a little, enough to fill a 4 oz. container for my mom to try it. How do I do the calculation??? I know your thinking didn't she just graduate! My brain is fried, i need help hahaha

It depends how strong the fragrance is. Try 20 drops for 4 ozs. and see if that's strong enough for you. You can always add a little bit more, but you can't take away.

Math is your friend

1 oz volume - appx 30ml

4 oz = 120ml

1% of 120ml = 1.2ml

So you'd add appx 1.2ml of FO to 4 oz of lotion base. But, as Soapbuddy says, start lower, & I'd advise letting it sit for a day or two - my lotions "bloom" significantly after a few days in the bottle, & I over-did the FO in my first batches...

To finish Tartchef's calculations...there are 15 drops in 1 ml, so 1.2ml = 18 drops = 1% but I agree it is better to start out low and work up. Also each fragrance is different as far as scent strength. I wish I had known these numbers when I started making lotions. I have made some VERY potent stuff! especially the florals......whew!
