I was wondering if there was a difference between La Bomb colors and Lakes. From the ingredient list for La Bomb, it looks like it is a color, for example, Yellow 5, and glycerin. If there's no difference, I already own a bunch of lakes, so can I just use those for bath fizzies if I add in the glycerin?

If your lakes are cosmetic safe, then yes, you can use them for that.

thanks soap buddy...do you think micas would work, too, if i dissolved it in glycerin first?

I'm trying to save money, plus all these bottles and jars of colorants are getting confusing!

Sure, you can try micas. Be aware that some will not give you much color, like the silver. But they will give you some sparkle.

are Ultramarines safe as well for bath fizzies? As long as I dissolve in glycerin first? Or perhaps I should mix in with the other dry ingredients...this is the first time I'm going to be making bath fizzies and I don't want to start any crazy reactions on the first attempt!

maybe i'll make a batch called deviled egg surprise and use ultramarines in that one!!!

keep in mind that colors that aren't completely water soluble can float, or can be suspended in the oil when THAT floats, and may in some cases leave a ring around the user's tub. i always use dyes, because they don't have that problem. micas and oxides need to be tested carefully - they often are in suspension, not dissolved.

are dyes the FD&C ones? or which ones?

I've only used your regular soaps (blueberry salt bar!!!), maybe next time I will have to try the bath bombs!
