Hi all,

I m all out of Steric acid for my lotion and no one has it locally. Can I make nice thick lotion with just the Emulsifying Wax? If so do I replace the amount I would have used of the Steric Acid with the EW?

TIA

Here is the recipe that I use. It makes a nice creamy thick lotion but it does take a little bit to get it to set up.

65% Distilled Water
5% E-Wax
8% Avocado Oil
5% Sweet Almond Oil
6% Shea Butter
5% Apricot Kernel Oil
6% Jojoba Oil
.5% Phenonip
.5% Fragrance

You can't just sub back and forth between stearic and e-wax - they're two completely different things. You might consider changing some of the oils in your recipies to something that has a high natural stearic content - palm oil, for example. Shea butter is another good one.

The recipe from hvrba looks nice, too.

I have made lotions using both stearic and e-wax. I actually prefer to leave the stearic out. I think it makes a creamier, smoother lotion.

hvrba, when you say it take a bit to set up, do you mean you have to whip it longer, or do you let it sit and stir?

I use my stick blender, then stir, then blend, then stir and repeat until it sets up. I have just noticed that when I use the stearic, it sets up pretty quickly. When I don't, it takes a little bit longer. If it sits, it tends to get a tad bit clumpy around the edges, so I just blend and stir until set. Also, I get it pretty thick before adding my preservative and make sure it is cooled. It tends to thin just a tad when I add the preservative and scent.

Thanks Haven. I'm gonna try your recipe. To me less is better with the chemicals.
