I attempted some lip balm and it turned out really oily and never seemed to harden. It was a Melt and pour. All i did was add a tiny bit of cucumber melon and a tiny bit of mica. Does anyone know how i can salvage this batch? Did i do something wrong to make it so liquidy?

Was the cucumber melon lip safe flavor?

Yes it was lip safe. It was part of a lip balm kit I bought at BB. Could it be the cucumber melon that made it too oily?

You could try gently remelting it and add a little bit of melted beeswax to harden it and a small amount of corn starch to make it less greasy.

Hm, interesting. Cucumber Melon Flavor oil is one of my faves. I like the idea of remelted and adding a bit of melted beeswax (start at 10%) to get it more hard. Was the product hard when you got it? I'm wondering if the lip balm was really oily before you melted it down and added flavor to it...?

No it wasn't hard when I took it out of the container. I would say it was probably the consistency of spreadable butter. Should it have been hard to start with? Also how do i figure out what 10% beeswax is?

For a 16 ozs. of product, you would need 0.8 oz. of beeswax. This is 5%. If you need more; add another 0.8 ozs.; for a total of 10%.

Thanks! The beeswax definitely made it harder and more lip balm like! Do you have any good recipes for lip balm or chapstick? I used the melt and pour this past time but I would like to try to make my own next time.

If you want to make your own, try 1/3 oils, 1/3 butters, 1/3 wax. Adjust to your liking.

Does it matter what kind of butter or what kind of oil? I think I have some shea butter and some coconut oil in my house, do you think that would work? Would olive oil work for lip blam? Sorry these might be stupid questions...
