Can Wheat Germ oil be used as a preservative? I am just doing some research this evening and have come across some information that I am unsure of and thought I would ask the experts. I am pretty sure that I have seen that it doesn't work good enough as a preservative but it is very possible that I am wrong. Thanks in advance.

No. What Germ oil has a very short shelf life.

I thought because wheat germ oil has a good amount of vitamin e that would as an antioxident but it will do nothing to prevent mold and such. Don't try it.

I had no intentions of trying it. I was reading something somewhere (won't say what or where) and they use it as a natural preservative according to their site. I didn't think it could be used as a preservative but I wanted to make sure. In my opinion, there is such a small amount of preservative in a batch of lotion that it is ok to use Phenonip or Germab?? Don't know how to spell this morning. Anyway. Thanks for answering my question.

Grapefruit seed extract and ROE have both been touted as preservatives, which they are not. They are antioxidants as is Vit. E
