I am really new to all of this, so maybe this is a crazy question, but I have to ask....Does anyone use UV absorbers when making lotions? I found something on a website that talks about using them. They mentioned Benzophenone 4. On the same site, it said that that ingredient was also a fixative for heavy perfumes. Is there another name for this ingredient? Hope this isn't too crazy of a question! Thanks for always answering my posts!

It's my understanding that UV absorbers are sunscreens. You can add it, but you cannot make any type of claims. If you do, it falls under the FDA jurisdicion and is then considered an OTC (over the counter) drug. It would have to be tested and approved and it's VERY expensive.

As always, thanks so much for the reply! I will not be going that route - apparently it is not a common ingredient to add!

Thanks again!
