Didn't thicken it... but also don't know my dilution rate lol. I must admit I didn't hold high hopes for it to succeed and was still struggling to understand the dilution rate so I just kept adding small amounts of boiling water until it was all dissolved. It was that process that helped me understand the dilution thing better lol. By the time I got up this morning and it was all cold, it was thick and gooey like.

I'm going to make another batch tonight and do some tests. I'll divide the paste up and do a 3:1 dilution rate as suggested in the Soaping101 video. And then do a 2:1 dilution in case the 3:1 is too much water.

Soapbuddy - I originally got these bottles for my kids room sprays (monster spray, etc) and my hair detanglers as I figured they would be harder for kids to tip over. I've since had so many people comment on them that I think I'll use them for everything hehe. They are a pain to label though...

Interesting... Just did a half/half Glycerin/Goat's Milk (Fresh) batch and instead of the 5 minutes it took to reach taffy stage, I'm back to the 20+ minutes and a nearly burnt out stick blender. :?

Congratulations on your beautiful liquid soap! :D Coolah, I made the Soaping101 recipe. I followed her recommended 3:1 dilution and it never thickened up! I admit I didn't try salt solution since that hasn't worked well for me. I'm planning on trying this method again though and just starting at 1:1 dilution and going from there. I will get a decently thick LS someday.

Other than the quicker cooking time what are some other benefits of replacing the water with glycerin?

Your liquid soap looks wonderful. The glycerine method is such a great way to make liquid soap and so simple.

Do you wait for it to cool completely before you bottle it?

It didn't look to me when she was pouring like all the lye got dissolved in, either.

Are those kind of temp gauges w/ the pen you stick into the liquid better than the laser temp gun gauge for LS? And btw what is the 'GM Powder' you guys are referring to?

How hot do you guys have to get the glycerin to fully dissolve the lye? Do you think it is it better to add KOH to hot glycerin or room temp glycerin then raise the temp slowly until it dissolves? It looks fairly safe from the video to do with hot glycerin so long as the pot is big enough for the inevitable foaming. In that video the lady only got it up to about 215 degrees but her lye didn't dissolve completely either i don't think.
