Teach Soap

I dropped my blush compact on the tile floor and it broke all to pieces! Time to get a new one...but wait!! Wouldn't it be more rewarding, fun and inexpensive to make my own?!! So, I sat down to do some research. I found BB's mineral makeup kit but I don't really want all the eye shadow colors and didn't want to spend $45 !! I see on the Soap Queen blog A.M. had a tutorial on making some blush. I see that micas are the common colorant, along with Sericite and Dry Flow powder. Can oxides also be used?
Has anyone tried making their own blush? Can you share with me any advice or recipes? Is it even worthwhile?

Hi Sherri, I'm not a mineral makeup expert, but I have taken the class on it that they teach at Otion.

Micas are used for coloring, including shimmer-based colors. You can use oxides, they are the other colorant used. Make sure whatever you use is rated skin safe, and if you're doing eye or lip makeup, that they're rated okay for those areas as well.

Here is a simple recipe -
Perfect Blush - 1 tbsp Sericite + 1/2 tsp Dry Flo + 2 mini scoops Brick Red Oxide

Have fun with it! Mineral makeup is so much healthier than the commercial options, and making it, you can't beat the price.

I bought a mineral makeup guide from BB and it is full of great info and recipes and was only $8


I totally intend to make my own makeup. I don't wear it, but my daughter does and I would love to make it with her! Plus I will know whats in it and make it beneficial to her skin type!

I am very excited about the blush I made! I thought it would take much longer to get the color I wanted but it turned out great! My only desire for it now is o get it to be more compact and less powdery without it being a cream blush. I like to apply it with a brush but now it is a very loose powder. Does anyone have experience with this? Do I add a bit of beeswax or an oil?
