Hello all, I am fairly new to soaping and am looking for some help. I can follow a recipe no problem, but am not confident with coming up with my own recipe. I am looking to try and make my own version of a lotion called Pole Physics and this lotion is very pricey. The purpose of this lotion is that is it non-greasy, still moisturizes and does not leave a residue on skin. It is used by pole fitness athletes, so we can stay moisturized, but not have to worry about slipping off the pole as we use our skin to grip.

Here are the ingredients listed on the bottle: Water, Ethyl Oleate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerine, Cetearyl Glucoside, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract, Equisatum Arvense (Horsetail) Leaf Extract, Vitamin E, Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic ACid, Sorboc ACid, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Backhousia Citriodora (lemon Myrtle Leaf Oil, Lavendula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Vanilla, Fruit Extract, Parfum, Clear Limonene, Linalool.

If anyone has any suggestions for this, please let me know.

Thank you!

Ethyl oleate is a fatty acid ester that is water soluble. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is fractionated coconut oil, making it less slippery or greasy. Cetearyl Glucoside is a vegetable emulsifier, derived from coconut and glucose. It's what binds the oil and water together. Stearic Acid is a thickening agent in lotion. Benzyl alcohol is used as a solvent and a preservative at 20% or more. It can be drying on the skin. Sorbic Acid is a pH adjustor. Potassium Sorbate is a mild preservative, normally used in foods. Xanthan Gum is a thickener.

You could make a plain lotion with distilled water, fractionated coconut, E-wax (emulsifier), stearic acid, benzyl alcohol, xantham gum and a preservative. Since you would be making this product at home, I would suggest to go with a preservative that's available to homecrafters and leave the potassium sorbate out. In a home setting, this mild preservative would not be strong enough to keep mold, germs and bacteria at bay.

Here is a sticky I posted about preservatives. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5032
