Teach Soap

This is my second time trying to make lotion. I am not sure why I didn't get this right this time. Well actually I am.
I went by the instructions from Natures Garden Video. I don't remember if I used those ingredients because the first time or if I used my own. I do know that I didn't follow the instructions clearly and it came out looking lol. Real funny.

The second time around, I followed the NG video instructions and ingredients. The problem is my lotion has not thickened yet. I am not sure how long it takes to thicken. But it's been an hour so far. Maybe I need to give it more time.

The second issue is that I think my scale misread the preservative info and I think 3 grams was a little more than 3 grams. Should I test a small amount on my skin after it thickens if it even thickens? I was pouring and it kept reading 0. Then it skipped to 2 grams. Then 3. It just looked like too much.

Does Optiphen ND have a smell or is it unscented?

Depending on the ingredients used, the method and the temps used, it can take some time before the lotion will thicken. For a small recipe or a small amount of ingredients you need an accurate scale like a jewelers scale. They are available in places like amazon or ebay. Using too much preservative can be irritating to the skin. The color of Optiphen ND can be from clear to light yellow. It has a light smell. It's normally used at 0.2% - 1.2%. You can see why it's important to weigh everything correctly.

I will order a Jewelers scale next week. It was an 8 ounce batch. What I will do is let it sit overnight an let it see if it thickens. If it doesn't I will toss it and start over. If it does I will still toss it because, I feel I used too much preservative. I am just waiting it out to see if it was a success (as far as it thickening) and I can do it again once I get my new scale.

Will post final results tomorrow.

I would keep it long enough to see if it thickens, but due to the extra preservative, I would toss it.
