I looked at some slides of my scrub under the microscope, and it looked OK to me! There was nothing alive at the magnification I can do with my microscope, so that is a good sign! However, mold and yeast, etc., don't move, so I don't know if there was any of that in there or not. Of course, I'm no expert, so I could have missed something important, but I did mix up a brand new scrub on the spot and observe it under the scope, too. It looked very similar to the older one. I think I am safe, considering bacteria don't grow very well in oil (correct?). But what had me worried was, I was afraid some water from the shower would get into the scrub, and then bacteria would grow in the water. And THEN, I saw a dark-looking cloud floating in the oil at the top of the scrub, and was deathly afraid it was a bacteria cloud or something. And while I could see the dark cloud under the microscope, it simply looked like a dark splotch, nothing deadly. I am now thinking it was just some vanilla extract that had separated out from the oils...
Maybe I am paranoid, I just don't want to put bacteria-infested scrub all over me!
Would the lotion tester that you mentioned, soapbuddy, work for scrubs as well, or only lotion?

). I simply used a dropper to put some of the pond water near the bottom of the jar on a slide and examined under the microscope; saw plenty of little wriggling organisms, no stain required. If it works with pond water, it will probably work with lotion or a scrub. At least, I am willing to try it!
